Dear Viewers,
It is finally fall and I am so ready for coat, rainy, and
cloudy weather! October to me is the beginning of Pumpkin Spice lattes,
overcast mornings, crunchy leaves and hot tea time! I hope all of you are ready
for Halloween, and are planning out your fabulous costumes! I haven’t even gotten a pumpkin, how shameful
is that! None the less, school is going great and I am
having such a fun time with my classmates and assignments. It is already the 5th
week of school and I am as we speak working on my midterm project. My teacher was very lenient and gave the
class an option as to choose a topic of our choice. I decided to do an overview
montage on a photo center called, Rayko, located in San Francisco. The location
of the facility is very secluded, so it is far away from the city raucous. I
had a lot of fun shooting and working with the staff that helped participate in
my video. With that said, I felt like the setting and Rayko’s mood was a great
place to capture my photos for one of my features. I went to one gallery before
I decided to choose Rayko to be the leading piece in my project. The first building was called Art Galleries,
in which there was an assortment of multi categorized forms of art. It took me
a while to get through all the rooms, considering there were 5 levels, and two
to three galleries in each. I would say I spent a fair amount of time in each
one of them. After taking a few snap shots, I was off and headed to the next
location on my go to gallery list. I was looking for a postmodern, authentic,
quirky staff, family owned gallery for my project. At least that is what I had envisioned in my
head, prior to the choosing Rayko. Being that it wasn’t too far walking
distance from my school, I got there in a short amount of time. I was immediately allured and convinced that
it was the perfect place to base and shoot my project on. After explaining the
emphasis on why I was interested in filming the facility, the staff was delighted
and happily offered in contributing to assisting me with whatever I needed. This
was fantastic news! It had everything I
was looking for, right when I walked in there was a vintage, urban, crisp vibe
and the simplicity and aesthetic of the buildings décor was very eye-catching.
Another intriguing factor that caught my interest was the vintage late 40’s photo
booth, placed at the corner of the room. Being able to film and take pictures
in the booth was actually one of my most favorite parts about filming this
project! The photo booth is so old that it hasn’t even been retrofitted to
accept dollar bills. You have to go to the front desk and exchange bills into
tokens to power it up. There was no way I was going to walk out of that studio
without a photo strip. I mean c’mon this baby is a classic! I loved how my
pictures turned out; the sepia effect really creates the feel of a vintage
photograph. Overall, I spent a good amount of time gathering my thoughts and
shooting for the project that day. Also I highly encourage if you haven’t, to
come and check out Rayko for those of you who are San Francisco residence and
especially to those who aren’t. It is a wonderful place to experience the art
of photography, meet new people, hang out, and take pictures! I had a
great experience and I left with a big
smile on my face, one because I had found the focal point to my midterm project
and two because I got to take home my vintage photo booth strip. To conclude this marvelous evening it was
time to sit down and chow down on some New York Pizza. It seemed practical at
the time, only because the pizza parlor was around the corner! Mmmmm, feta,
artichoke, basil, sundried tomato pizza! Art and Food, now that is what I call an epic success! Here
is my incentive for you to reflect on, simply go out and venture in your
community! Get some fresh air and find new places to cherish. Where there is a
will there is a way, make it happen, and also, go alone, when you find
something by yourself you will be glad to call that experience your own! Good
luck, a journey awaits you! Hope you enjoyed reading and stay posted! Ciao<3
